End of another year
Here we are again, at the end of another busy year. As usual, things haven’t stayed the same and I’ve recently joined the Devonport Guildhall Print Studio, housed in a lovely old building with a great atmosphere and excellent facilities. I’m excited to be involved with this new opportunity and look forward to going printing there next year with optimism. I’ve also enrolled in the one-year ‘Professional Landscape Programme’ at Newlyn School of Art; we have to attend one weekend in 8 over a year-long period and we (my loyal husband and I) went there for the first session in November. It was a lot of fun and extremely intensive - I have to say that it was everything I had hoped it would be and I’ll post my progress on here over the course of the year.
It’s been a packed year again - we’ve been to France, London and Amsterdam enjoying our travels and visiting some excellent exhibitions. We recently went to the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, which as usual was cram-packed with all types of printmaking on show; a couple by Hughie O’Donoghue were my particular favourites, and were I rich, I could easily have spent thousands of pounds. But I didn’t.
Whilst in London we saw the ‘Being Landscape’ exhibition at the Design Museum which was excellent; I also discovered the work of Bethan Laura Wood that was on show at the same time and thoroughly enjoyed seeing her exquisite sketchbooks and ceramics. At the Tate Modern we visited the ‘Theatre Picasso’ exhibition and were very disappointed to find that it was far too busy - due to a timed entry policy but sadly with no timed exits - to see the work properly and we left very quickly. At Cristea Roberts we saw the work of Emma Stibbon entitled ‘Melting Ice | Rising Tides’ where we both enjoyed seeing her enormous watercolour paintings.
We’ve also recently been granted an allotment after a 4 year wait and went to see it at the Central Park Allotments site where we were warmly welcomed and shown around; there’s a cafe and geese and ducks so this will, I’m sure, provide me plenty of subject matter going forward. At the moment, though, our plot is a complete jungle so once Christmas is over, that’s what we’ll be doing, cutting back, chopping down and digging over. Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful New Year!
